Division and Chapters to Celebrate the UN’s 65th Anniversary

Come join the UNA-USA Southern New York State Division and its Chapters in celebrating the 65th anniversary of the United Nations.   We’ll emphasize the importance of achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals, as a way to improve lives of people around the world.  

Below are the key events.   Bring friends, and help your local chapters and the division to encourage new memberships.  Together we can inform the public about the work of the United Nations around the world and participate in ways that we can to help achieve the MDGs.

October 16 – Queens Chapter – Celebration of the 65th Anniversary of the United Nations, with a focus on the Millennium Development Goals.  Queens Museum of Art; New York City Building, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, NY 11368  3 to 5 pm.  For information: Admission free of charge.

October 18-22 – Brooklyn Chapter – The UNA Brooklyn Chapter endeavors to meet with all of Brooklyn’s congressional representatives in the week leading up to UN Day to advocate positions that are critical to the work of the UNA-USA and the UN.  See:  Also, the Chapter is planning its annual meeting on October 14. 

October 20 – Southern NY State Division / Nassau County – Re-dedication of the United Nations Photo Exhibit  Special guest:  New York State Governor’s Honorary Chair for UN Day, Mrs. Michele Lee Clarke-Ceres.  225-295 Community Park Drive (Lake Success) / Great Neck; music and refreshments. 6 to 8 p.m.   Admission free of charge. October 21 – New York Chapter – UNA-NY Humanitarian Awards Dinner 2010 ; “Partnerships to End Poverty and World Hunger” Gala  The Union Club, 101 East 69th Street. New York, NY 10021 See: for information and tickets. 

October 23 – Nassau – UN Day Celebration.  The speaker will be Oscar deRojas, former director of the United Nations Financing for Development office, who currently teaches at C.W. Post College of LIU.  Music and refreshments.  The Bryant Library, 2 Paper Mill Road, Roslyn, NY 11576.  See The Bryant Library website 

October 24 – Westchester Chapter – United Nations 65th Anniversary: Meeting the Millennium Development Goals:  Westchester’s Contributions.  Mrs. Michele Clarke-Ceres, the Governor’s Honorary Chair for UN Day, will be the guest of honor.  Community Unitarian Church, 408 Rosedale Ave., White Plains, NY.  Refreshments  3  to 5 p.m.  For information, contact:  Brenda Smith at  or Claire Heskestad at
