August 16, 2010

by Jeanne Betsock Stillman, MSPH, President, UNA-USA Southern New York State Division

I’d like to bring to the attention of all an excellent and timely book edited by Dr. Padmini Murthy and Dr. Clyde Lanford Smith.  Entitled “Women’s Global Health and Human Rights,” it has beenwell-reviewed in the UN Chronicle.  Major themes include the impact of globalization, economics and development, chronic diseases, human rights, and cultural practices.  Dr. Murthy will serve as a workshop moderator at the upcoming 63rd Annual UN/DPI NGO Conference in Melbourne, Australia, whose theme is “Advance Global Health: Achieve the MDGs.”

Dr. Murthy is a UNA-USA Member, volunteering with the UNA-USA Southern New York State Division, and is the NGO Co-Representative of Medical Women International Association to the United Nations.  She  is Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management and Global Health Program Director at New York Medical College and NYMC School of Health Sciences and Practice. She is also Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Community and Family Medicine.
