Appreciating UN Peacekeepers
By James Fargher, UNA-NNJ intern
The United Nations currently supports seventeen peacekeeping operations around the globe, monitoring and implementing peace agreements and helping to allow post-conflict countries begin the peace-building process. Now a hallmark of the United Nations, blue-helmeted peacekeepers are currently stationed in sensitive regions such as Liberia, Sudan, Timor L’este, Afghanistan, Haiti, and Kosovo. Through the courage of these men and women, the United Nations has managed to disarm more than 400,000 combatants and protect millions of women and girls from violence.
Please join us in thanking all UN peacekeepers for the humanitarian role they play in our world today.
